Who is the preseason No. 1? Well, that depends on who you ask. Sporting News put its post-spring Top 25 up against five other publications — ESPN, Bleacher Report, CBSSports.com, Fox Sports and Athlon — to see what everybody else’s preseason rankings looked like. Four publications put Alabama at No. 1, while ESPN picked Ohio State and CBS Sports took Florida State. Six schools received top-five votes across the six sites, including Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, USC, Penn State and defending national champion Clemson....

An editorial published on Tuesday by The Kansas City Star called for the resignation or firing of Highland Community College President Deborah Fox for comments that included the remark “Hitler was a great leader.” Fox made the remarks during a meeting on the alleged harassment of Black student-athletes last October. The Hitler comparison was reportedly made while she questioned a Black football player’s leadership skills and supposed influence on other Black players....

Ecuador, facing a crisis of hyperinflation, replaced the sucre with the dollar last year. The Gazette newspaper in Colorado Springs, Colorado, published an editorial Saturday condemning the Nazi Germany name-calling over a disagreement between Republican House Minority Leader Patrick Neville and Democratic Governor Jared Polis about the shelter-in-place orders. Polis, who on Friday updated his coronavirus self-quarantine orders to include a mask requirement in grocery stores and health care facilities, issued an emotional response last week to Neville claiming in March that Polis’ stay-at-home orders embrace “a Gestapo-like mentality....

Five unbeaten teams remain in Clemson (10-0), LSU (9-0), Ohio State (9-0), Baylor (9-0) and Minnesota (9-0). Six-one loss teams are on their heels in Alabama (8-1), Georgia (8-1), Oklahoma (8-1), Oregon (8-1), Penn State (8-1) and Utah (8-1). That said, there are hurdles for all of these teams to overcome to get there....

This week’s top 10 stayed almost completely the same, with the only change being Oklahoma State’s exit from the top 10 in the AP Poll after a loss to West Virginia. TCU took the No. 10 spot in the AP Poll after it defeated Texas Tech. Oklahoma State, with an 8-3 record, fell all the way to No. 18 in the AP Poll. The top 10 in the Coaches Poll stayed unchanged....

The early signing period is here, running Wednesday through Friday. As always, fans will wait with bated breath on whether their longtime recruiting targets will honor their verbal or break their hearts. Another commonality from previous early signing periods: Alabama is challenging for the top overall class alongside No. 2 Georgia, No. 5 LSU and No. 9 Tennessee, all SEC programs within the top 10 recruiting classes — for now....
